Construction everywhere – that is the impression one gets from the moment the car leaves Chingis Khan International Airport. Dirty, dusty and developing into a Mongolia that you would think in ten weeks much less then years will look very different from the one we see today.
Statues of nomadic and heroic pride seem to direct the frantic pace of modernity as Mongolians go about their lives in the capital of Ulaan Baatar. Vestiges of Soviet rule can be seen in the old-style housing, community areas and in the state buildings. Children are everywhere as are the elderly who look like they just came down from the steppe and out of their gers.
Thanks O., for the great piece on a burgeoning Mongolia. I hope they will be able to find a safe way to export their natural riches. It may be somewhat tricky.
