What is the last thing a Japanese person living near Fukushima expects a foreigner to ask him these days? How about : “Can you take me for a ride up North?”
Takikawa-san and I were finished with our volunteer work and I had yet to see the shoreline. He lives in the area and agreed to take me up in his Prius towards Fukushima. We visited Otsu and Hirakata ports on the Ibaraki side, both hard hit by the earthquake and tsunami. We both froze when we saw the clock on the Otsu Port Fisheries Office. “Take a lot of pictures and tell the world we got hit too”
