Homecoming: You can never really go back, but you can help preserve the legacy

We all have much to be thankful for – especially for the nurturing environments that made us who were are today.

At the recent homecoming for my childhood grammar school and neighborhood, Saint Bartholomew School in Elmhurst Queens, I was reunited with buddies; many who I have not seen in over 30 years. The hugs and handshakes reminded me of the strong bonds forged in ways that launched our characters (and some are real characters!).

Most of my friends concluded that we were given many positive opportunities to grow in a generally nurturing environment. Although there will always be discussions of secular vs. sacred, – and there should be, I am left with the face of the young girl from the class of 2013 and thoughts of what the modern day American Dream may be now for her and her immigrant family.

Colleges, universities, and institutes of technology are the main institutions that provide tertiary education.
